Jess Greenberg: Looking Past Appearance

By Joshua Puit

For those who have seen Jess Greenberg’s videos on YouTube, they would most likely remember them for her breasts, and not her talent.  I would believe this is true, with have around 40 or more videos showing a lot of cleavage, but I would also say that it is unfortunate that people only remember her for that, and not her talent.  Looking past her appearance, this gifted women truly “shows off the goods” with her voice and guitar.

Going back to her first video upload, I watched Greenberg do a cover of You’ve Got A Friend by Carole King and James Taylor.  The video was uploaded in 2010 and has now reached over 314,000 views.  I was very impressed with her guitar playing skills for such a young age (I believe she was 15 years old in the video).  She uses a finger picking technique, which can be difficult to learn and master, but she did it very well.  There were only a few minor mistakes here and there, but her overall playing was very good.  And her voice sounded great as well.  She seemed a little camera shy in the video, but the main focus in the video is on her voice and guitar skills, not on her boobs.  Her talent is what gave her so many views, and I think she did a great job on the song.

Her next video showed a more confident girl, playing Over The Rainbow by Eva Cassidy, and her talent definitely shines bright.  Out of all of her videos, this was my top favorite cover of hers.  Again, she used a finger picking technique, which she did much better than her first video in my opinion.  Her voice was truly incredible in this song, and sounded beautiful.  She shows a lot of emotion in this song; that being the expressions on her face, the look in her eyes, the sound in her voice, and even the picking of the guitar.  I could see and hear the emotion and talent pouring through.  The video was only uploaded a day after her first video, and I was surprised to see and hear such a big difference between the two.  And impressively, the video now has over 765,000 views.

In 2012, only two short years after her very first video upload, her first video appears with the more exposed skin.  The song was You’ve Got To Show Me Love by Robin S., and this was my second favorite cover Greenberg has done to date.  Despite the extra skin showing, her talent is what blew me away in this video.  Her confidence, compared to her first two videos, is drastically different.  You would think they were two different people.  Vocally you can hear a big difference.  The projection in her voice was incredible, and she sounded spot on throughout the song.  Her guitar playing improved, and she shows a lot of confidence in her playing as well.  I don’t think she could have done the song any better.  And although the increased sexuality did increase her views (over 773,000 views), it wasn’t really that much higher than her Over The Rainbow cover.

Moving from her You’ve Got To Show Me Love cover, the remainder of her videos do show off her breast a lot.  Her guitar skills in later videos didn’t impress me that much (although she does still play good), but her voice still sounds great to me.  Her talent is still there, but many people can’t seem to get past one thing; well, actually two.  Many of the comments on her videos are geared towards her chest, and not her voice or guitar playing.  And many of the comments are very negative, which I do not want to share with you because of how inappropriate and mean they are.  Did she get breast implants?  Or did she just get older and matured?  Either way, who cares?  Her breasts are not what the main focus should be in her videos.  Although I agree when you’re scrolling through YouTube, “the girls” do make her stand out, and can sometimes be distracting.  But really, any publicity is good publicity, and if she’s using her breasts for attention to get views, then so be it.  It’s her life and her decision, and it’s working for her.  She receives an incredible amount of views (her cover of Highway To Hell by AC/DC has over 14 million views!!!), maybe views for the wrong reasons, but once you click “play”, you’ll hear how talented she is; as long as you can look past her appearance you'll see and hear what I did.

Other notable vidoes of Jess that I recommend:

-Time After Time by Cindi Lauper

-Enter Sandman by Metallica

-Cannonball by Damien Rice

-Grenade by Bruno Mars

-Billie Jean by Michael Jackson

She also does covers of many great bands/musicians like:  Led Zepplin, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Doobie Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Bon Jovi, The Beatles, and more!
